When Gela Taylor – wife of ‘Duran Duran’ musician and singer, John Taylor – joined hands with Pamela Skaist-Levy, to found ‘Juicy Couture’ in 1994, little did they know that this would be the start of a juicy, story. In the early years, Juicy Couture started out as a designer T shirt company, but sometime during 1999, it made an about turn and dramatically, transformed itself with its entry in the sportswear and denim market. Consistent, success in this segment led to the now famous and much in demand, Juicy Couture Tracksuits.

Juicy Couture’s celebrity launch
To achieve “Chic Couture” status for the ‘Juicy Couture’ label, and their famous Juicy Couture Tracksuits, Skaist-Levy and Gela Taylor devised an intelligent, strategy. A close relationship was developed with members of the Hollywood community, and for the formal launch, such high-profile celebrities as Madonna, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez were offered ‘free’ shopping. Pictures taken of these big, names with Juicy Couture Tracksuits, were splashed in every fashion magazine … and the rest is fashion history. The brand soon moved into the ‘high-fashion’ league, rubbing shoulders with such big names in fashion, as ‘DKNY’, ‘Guess’ and Gucci.

At the time Skaist-Levy and Gela Taylor entered the sportswear and denim market, their first task was to create a tracksuit that would deviate from the ordinary. Levy – Taylor’s shared vision resulted in the creation of unique, elements which made Juicy Couture Tracksuits famous – the unique, low-riding draw-string trousers, well matched with form-fitting, zip-up hoodies.

In a move that took the fashion world by surprise in 2003, Juice Couture was sold to Liz Claiborne, a world renowned, name in fashion. There was immense speculation about the value of the deal, but by conservative guesstimates, it is believed to have been a multi-million dollar one. This in itself was a remarkable, achievement for a company that was then barely a decade old. When the deal was done, Juicy Couture had by then made their ruffled, velvet tube dresses, ‘Juicy loves Martha’ clothing line, and their unique they sought much after, symbols of high fashion.

Juicy Couture Tracksuits still make waves
Under the aegis of Liz Claiborne, Juicy Couture products continue to flourish and now market a range of items in various categories. Items of fashion such as men, women and children’s clothing collection, in addition to a range of fashion, accessories, viz., handbags, swimwear and jewelry, are available at all Liz Claiborne outlets.

Of course, their flagship, product – the inimitable Juicy Couture Tracksuits are still making waves in the fashion world.
